Refurbishment of National Memorial for the Unborn Gardens
The National Memorial for the Unborn is in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Located on the site of a former abortion clinic where 35,000 abortions were performed, the Memorial has been open for the last twelve years and honors the memory of these unborn children. The Memorial is dedicated to healing generations of pain associated with the loss of aborted children. The Memorial features a fifty foot granite "Wall of Names" which holds small brass plates with words of remembrance placed by mothers, fathers and other family members from all over the country. On the site of the Memorial there is a contemplative garden, containing a water garden, a gazebo, and other places for quiet reflection.
One of our members recognized that the gardens were in need of work, and he brought this project to our council for consideration. Supplies were purchased, including paint, mulch, flowers, and materials to repair the water garden. Over two weekends in July and August 2004, a total of 100 work hours were put in. The fence rails were painted, the gazebo was re-stained, the landscaping was cleaned up and new flowers and bulbs were planted. Several loads of mulch were also brought in and spread around the plant beds.
The overall impact that this work had on the gardens of the Memorial was dramatic, and the staff/volunteers of the Memorial were very grateful to the Knights of Columbus.
Attached, please find a few of the pictures taken during one of the work dates.
